A little bit about myself...

My name is Katey Mowery and I am a senior Secondary Mathematics Education major at Elizabethtown College. I consider myself a math nerd and absolutely love learning about interesting and new math topics. Along with my love for learning math, I enjoy teaching others the beauty of math and the importance of knowing basic math skills. I believe that my students are the future and with the proper education, I think they can improve the world. To me, education is more than just teaching math; schools should teach students how to be better and more responsible people. To do this, I want to teach students how to think instead of what to think so that students can be what the learner is and wants to be. I think learners need experiences, application of knowledge, and understand problem-solving ideas to become successful.

Why did I create this website?

To start off, I am exceedingly passionate about this topic. I first became interested in at risk students with a mathematical learning disability because I hope to go into urban education when I graduate: I believe these students are in the most need for strong, dedicated teachers. I researched the best teaching strategies and assistive technologies for this group of students for my thesis for honors in the discipline in education. For the methodology aspect of my thesis, I decided to make this website to share my findings of the best strategies and assistive technologies.
